Friends of the Solano Commission for Women and Girls
The purpose of the Friends of the Solano Commission for Women and Girls (FSCWG) is to raise funds and awareness of the Commission which is dedicated to strengthening the lives of women and girls in our county through economic and social development.
History
Friends of the Solano Commission for Women and Girls (FSCWG) was founded on August 21, 2021. The “Friends” are the fiscal agent and legal sponsoring agency for the Solano Commission for Women and Girls. (SCWG) On April 24th, 2018, the Solano County Board of Supervisors voted to establish the Solano Commission for Women and Girls as an official advisory body to the Board of Supervisors. The mission of the Solano Commission for Women and Girls (SCWG) is to improve the economic status, health and social welfare, and overall quality of life for women and girls by providing community education and advice to the Solano County Board of Supervisors.
On August 18, 2021, Kay Kelley announced that the first meeting of the Friends of the Solano Commission for Women and Girls was ready to begin the discussions of forming a 501(c)3 non-profit to support the activities and provide funding for SCWG. The cities represented: Vacaville, Dixon, Rio Vista, Vallejo, Suisun City, Fairfield, and Benicia; all agreed to serve on the founding board. Kay stated that with the board's formation, we could now submit the Articles of Incorporation to the Attorney General's Office. An application was also promptly sent to the California Nonprofit Corporation and was approved nearly one year later. Finally, on October 16, 2022, we met as an official nonprofit organization.
